Wyoming Online Sports Betting Timeline
Online sports betting officially launched in Wyoming in September 2021 with DraftKings and BetMGM being the first to do so.
However, there were a series of events that led to this moment, including an initial bill failing to pass.
Below is an abbreviated timeline of how online sports betting in the state came to be, highlighting some of the more important moments.
- February 28, 2020 – The first bill, HB225, to legalize online sports betting fails after receiving a 32-27 vote from the Wyoming House of Representatives. The bill called for online-only, unlimited operators, and a 16% tax rate.
- March 10, 2021 – Interestingly, the Wyoming House of Representatives revisits a bill, HB133, to allow online sports betting that it rejected a day earlier. This time, the bill passed with a 32-28 vote. This was the same vote in favor of rejection a day prior.
- March 29, 2021 – HB133 goes to the Wyoming Senate and passes with a 24-5 vote, including one abstention.
- April 6, 2021 – Governor Mark Gordon signs HB133 into law. This also formally legalized daily fantasy sports, too.
- June 9, 2021 – The Wyoming Gaming Commission decides on the final rules after four drafts.
- July 15, 2021 – The Wyoming Gaming Commission opens up the sports betting license application process. In total, they receive applications from FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, and Barstool Sports.
- September 1, 2021 – Online sports betting launches with BetMGM and DraftKings being the first to do so.
- November 19, 2021 – FanDuel’s application is approved.
- February 3, 2022 – PointsBet’s application was approved, but has yet to launch.
- March 10, 2022 – FanDuel launches its online sports betting app in the state.
